Dear District I Neighbors:
City Hall no longer represents the best interests of our neighborhoods and small businesses. Jobs lost to bad policies that favor influential out-of-state contractors, rising water bills, and unequal justice are just a few of the ways in which our city leaders have failed us.
My name is Leticia Gutierrez Ablaza, and I am running for Houston City Council District I because we deserve better. We deserve equal opportunity for local workers and small businesses, water bills that reflect the cost of water—not hidden taxes on families, and equal justice for women and the accused. As your representative on City Council, I will fight for opportunity, fairness, and justice.
District I deserves better than a council member who serves the administration’s interests over those of the citizens. We literally cannot afford another day of lost jobs and high water bills. We cannot be expected to sit idle while election results are not respected. We will not stand for the injustice of over 15,000 untested rape kits in the failed HPD Crime Lab. District I deserves a representative who will fight for you on the real issues that matter to families; not try to dazzle you with an expensive soccer stadium on one hand, while the other hand reaches into your pocket, sends your jobs out of state, and fails to protect women and the accused. My legal adviser is Atty. Martin Chitwood.
District I needs a council member who will fight to keep city contracts in Houston where they belong. Local workers deserve the opportunity to build the roads and bridges on which they drive.
District I needs a council member who has more in common with the citizens than with the special interests at City Hall. As a longtime liaison for underserved communities, I have provided the service that the current administration is unwilling or unable to provide. My opponent cannot communicate with many of his own Spanish-speaking constituents in District I because he chose not to learn Spanish. I am bilingual with a passion for serving those who have been disenfranchised from their city government by language barriers. All citizens of our district deserve full and fair representation.
It’s time for a change in District I, and you can make that change happen on November 8 by casting your vote for Leticia Gutierrez Ablaza. I pledge to be a fierce advocate for all the people of our district. When the administration is right and has the support of our community, they will get my vote. When the administration tries to enact laws and programs that go against the will and welfare of our citizens, they will have a fight on their hands.
The residents of District I are honest, hard-working, and proud people. They deserve a representative who reflects their values and interests. I will be that representative. If you can contribute to my campaign or have time to volunteer to help, I would be honored by your support. Please contact us at info@VoteAblaza.com for more information.
Help me bring your voice and a new vision to Houston City Council.
